Tignes

Tignes (Savoie, Espace Killy) links with Val d'Isère for 300km of high-altitude, snow-sure piste between 1550m and 3456m, with year-round glacier skiing on the Grande Motte and a summer bike park. Camper vans are banned resort-wide in winter, so van travellers base themselves at the free Brévières/Les Boisses car parks or lower down the valley.

The way in

D902 into Tignes (via Bourg-Saint-Maurice)

Winter rules
Winter tyres or snow socks/chains compulsory in the Savoie mountain zones from 1 November to 31 March; the D902 up to Tignes is a single winding road crossed by an avalanche corridor and can be closed after heavy snowfall. ✓ checked · en.tignes.net · avenir-gendarmerie.org
Notes
The route in is via Albertville, the N90 to Bourg-Saint-Maurice, then the D1090 and D902 to Tignes; GPS units sometimes route drivers via the Col de l'Iseran or Col du Petit-Saint-Bernard, both of which are closed in winter. being checked

Col de l'Iseran

Winter rules
Closed to traffic for winter, normally from the first Monday in November (2 Nov 2026) until snow clearance finishes in June; not usable as a winter route to/from Val d'Isère. ✓ checked · en.tignes.net · en.tignes.net
Notes
Europe's highest paved pass at 2,764m; some satnavs still try to route drivers over it or the Petit Saint-Bernard in winter even though both are shut November to June. ✓ checked · en.wikipedia.org · en.wikipedia.org

Col du Petit-Saint-Bernard

Notes
Do not rely on GPS routing via this pass or the Mont Blanc tunnel in winter. ✓ checked · en.wikipedia.org · chaletchardons.com
Winter rules
Closed to all traffic for the winter from early November (2025/26: closed from 2 November) until late May; cannot be used to reach Tignes in winter. ✓ checked · en.tignes.net · haute-tarentaise.net

Bourg-Saint-Maurice

Notes
Standard route from the north runs Moûtiers → Bourg-Saint-Maurice → Val d'Isère via the N90 then D902, around 60km from Moûtiers. being checked · etablissements.fhf.fr · ch-bsm.fr

Do not rely on GPS routing over cols, which are shut in winter. ✓ checked · euro-immobilier.uk · en.tignes.net

Notes
