Val Thorens

Val Thorens is Europe's highest ski resort at 2,300 m, at the head of the Belleville valley in Savoie, forming the top sector of the giant Trois Vallées ski area. Its own Val Thorens–Orelle sector has 150 km of largely snow-sure, high-altitude pistes between about 1,825 m and 3,230 m, and it is fully ski-in/ski-out.

The way in

D117 mountain road, Moûtiers to Val Thorens (37 km)

Winter rules
Throughout the whole period the Belleville-valley resorts are open, a municipal decree can make winter equipment (chains, socks or 3PMSF tyres) compulsory when conditions require it. ✓ checked · valthorens.com
Notes
This is the classic and recommended approach: 37 km of mountain road from Moûtiers via Saint-Jean/Saint-Martin-de-Belleville and Les Menuires; the road is well maintained but real-time conditions should be checked before setting off. ✓ checked · valthorens.com
